Stupid Park Tricks
Slap-hitting Willy Bloomquist just hit an inside-the-park home run in Houston for the visiting Mariners, drawing the score closer to 2-1 Houston. (The Astros subsequently added to their lead with a two-run shot by Mike Lamb.) Bloomquist hit it to dead center and the ball bounced up Tal's Hill, behind the flagpole, forcing centerfielder Hunter Pence to hunt for the ball. This is one of the stupidest ballpark misdesigns the league has ever allowed, and it serves the Astros right that they gave up a four-bagger. It's too bad that doesn't happen more often.
Dodger fans may recall Dave Roberts robbing Lance Berkman of a home run at the apex of Tal's Hill for the last out in the bottom of the eighth on August 28, 2003. It was a real heart-stopper.
