Dodgers Interested In Octavio Dotel?

This would be potentially one of the more interesting moves at the trade deadline, or maybe before: the Kansas City Star claims that the Dodgers are inquiring about Octavio Dotel. The price looks to be Matt Kemp or James Loney, and are you nuts? (Via BTF.)

Why would they be interested in Dotel? Broxon seems pretty solid as a setup man, and Saito may be old but he's still effective. Do they want Dotel in a Speier-type role?

I don't think they want Dotel to close or setup, they'd most likely use him in the same role that Billingsley was in, while he was in the bullpen. A 7th inning man to get you to Broxton and Saito and perhaps doing occasional setup duty when Broxton needed rest. If they want Loney or Kemp, then this ain't gonna happen. I wouldn't even give up Etheir or LaRoche. This deal is probably a pipe dream.

Scenario: the Dodgers loose Tomko and Hendrickson, and now need another reliever. I dunno, you always need somebody to do mopup duties. I don't see that happening, and as Jon wrote today, the Dodgers just don't need a reliever.
