Pickoff Moves

Meta: Slower, And Faster

With my sister-in-law and niece in town, posting is likely to slow appreciably over the next couple weeks. That's especially true since I have no interest in the All-Star game, except to make sure that its participants from the teams I follow do not get injured during it. I will continue to work on the overhaul of the minor league scorebook.

Avoiding The Sweep: Angels 6, Rangers 2

Kelvim Escobar got to ten wins last night, despite throwing slightly less than a 2:1 strike to ball ratio. He ended up walking Marlon Byrd three times, but striking out eight overall. It was a good performance in a highly unforgiving yard; the Angels have been short on those lately.

Reggie Willits broke up his late slump with a sac fly and a single. The night's offensive star was the unlikely Maicer Izturis, who got a big clutch triple in the sixth to cash in Garret Anderson and Casey Kotchman.

Dodgers Miss Braves Series Win: Braves 8, Dodgers 6

I watched this game on the TV at Outback last night, coming into it in the bottom of the second inning, when Brad Penny had a booming double that cashed in Nomar Garciaparra. I have a feeling this game is announcing his second half decline, unfortunately, because he wasn't able to hold on to the lead, ultimately giving up six runs, all earned, over only four innings of work. Eric Stults vultured the loss by giving up the go-ahead run to Chipper Jones, the first of two solo shots he hit last night.

I misread that as except to make sure that its participants from the teams I don't follow get injured during it. I was thinking, Wow, what a cold-hearted bastard!

I am, you know.
