Santana Optioned To AAA

Ahead of my projections. Maybe Ervin can try out that "I don't have to prove nothing to anybody" schtick in Salt Lake, where he will be pitching for a while. Mike Napoli was activated from the DL to replace him on the 25-man, but the open question of what happens to Santana's rotation slot remains.

Assuming he is on his regular schedule, he would bump Kasey Olenberger down the rotation, in which case, his appearances would go thusly:

Date          Opponent
===========================
7/22   @ Sacramento
7/27  vs Omaha
8/1    @ Albuquerque
8/6    @ Round Rock
8/11* vs Portland
8/16  vs Tucson
8/21   @ Fresno
8/26   @ Colorado Springs**
8/31  vs Las Vegas
*There's an off day August 9 that could affect this; it appears the Bees have been using a four-man rotation with fill-in appearances as needed, but the main starters are on a five-day schedule. From August 9 to the end of the month the Bees have no breaks.
**No travel day between the Fresno series and Colorado series, either.

So Santana has his fate cast for a bit. His life will be difficult in AAA so far as parks are concerned, with a number of high-altitude appearances, and one more road game than home games. Of course, once the Angels settle on a real rotation slot for him, I'll post an updated schedule.

Scioscia is a great manager. He doesn't harshly criticize his guys yet doesn't lie yet is pretty easy to read. When he said yesterday, "We've tried a lot of different things, and we'll see how it plays out," that was the end. I hope that guy stays till I die.

Sure beats Sweet Lou, don't it?
