Waiting For The Angels' Outfield Jam, And Other Roster Notes
- Garret Anderson could be back as soon as Tuesday, which makes me uneasy. I truly fear for this team's offense in the second half. Chone Figgins, Reggie Willits, and Orlando Cabrera have been hitting out of their minds, and while I like Casey Kotchman, it's still possible for a sizeable regression from him, too (though I'm inclined to think he's around where I had hoped he would be). With Willits possibly sharing time with GA in the outfield and/or at DH, it doesn't leave many at-bats for Kendry Morales, who seems to be having a little breakout of his own (.282/.333/.538, 29 AB though).
- X-rays on Erick Aybar were "inconclusive", a bad word for those of us who have suffered through the same. I had an x-ray on my foot once when I got increasing pain there, and it took me a couple weeks of wearing a special shoe to correct the problem.
- Maicer Izturis will probably return to the lineup on Tuesday, and Justin Speier will show up shortly thereafter. The Angels want to see Speier throw on back-to-back days before declaring him hale.
- Three Dodgers made the NL All-Star team, Takashi Saito, Brad Penny, and Russell Martin. For the Angels, John Lackey, Vladimir Guerrero, and Francisco Rodriguez made the cut.
- The Dodgers are talking about a deal with the Chisox for Mark Buehrle, with the most likely return being Matt Kemp. How about, no?
- Mike Piazza still reports shoulder soreness, and the A's may abandon the attempt to have him catch. That would lead to a logjam at DH, where Jack Cust is now mostly.
- Sometime A's closer Justin Duchscherer has had his bullpen session pushed back another day as he's reporting hip soreness.

Reasons for 2nd-half offensive optimism:
* G.A. is an improvement over our previous DH production. And by the time he gets hurt again, Rivera might be a *big* improvement.
* Kendrick not likely to miss another 35 games.
* Almost no way Aybar gets another 150 ABs.
* Vlad hasn't really gone berzerk since the beginning of the season; check out his 2nd half stats last year.
The biggest concern for me is Regression of the Slappies. But even there, call me a sucker but I have this weird feeling that Figgins (with the help of Haynes, and that little bandage) has truly Figured Something Out, and will stay at the .320 level the rest of the year....
