And You Thought 18-9 Was A Big Score: Rangers 30, Orioles 3

The Rangers are currently walloping the Orioles 24-3 in a game that included two grand slams, one each by Travis Metcalf and Marlon Byrd. Wow.

So far (the game at present is in the 8th) this doesn't even match the franchise record for most runs scored in a single game, set in an April 19, 1996 contest against the Orioles; the Rangers won that contest 26-7. Thanks to Bob Timmermann in today's Dodger Thoughts gameday thread for the word.

Update: The Rangers scored two more in the top of the ninth against former Dodger Paul Shuey. 26-3, and men on second and third with one out for the Rangers.

Update 2: Ramon Vazquez hit a three-run shot to make it 30-3; according to Rick Monday in today's Dodger broadcast, that sets an AL record for most runs scored in a single game.

Update 3: The rout sets a modern (post-1900) record; no other major league team has hit 30 runs since then.

Update 4: Radical Bender informs us that the last time a team scored 30 runs in one game, the first World Series had yet to be played, the flag of the United States had just 45 stars, and more. Via Lone Star Ball.
