Astros Fire Purpura, Garner
I just don't get midseason managerial firings; either the team is working or it is not, and nine times out of ten it's the GM that needs to be canned. (Jim Tracy needed to go, but that was at least handled in the offseason.) Regardless, the Astros have fired both GM Tim Purpura and manager Phil Garner, which means Tal Smith and Cecil Cooper get those jobs with the word "interim" stuck in the middle. Longer term, that may mean more requests to talk to Angels personnel about these apparently open jobs; I wonder whether Grady Little will get extended by the Dodgers, or might end up in Houston's consideration as the "most likely veteran candidate" role.
