Diamondbacks Extend Byrnes For $30M/3 Years
It just doesn't sound like a good idea. Byrnes is an interesting guy, but he's got a rep as a player who dives too much, the "anti-Garret Anderson" as one poster recently called him over at HH; he's had a couple good seasons with the stick for the Snakes, but does he really have enough power to hold down a corner outfield job, something he's done for two years now?

Dbacks caved iin.
Last i heard, Byrnes wanted $10 mil/yr and AZ offfered $7.5 mil, then ceased negotiations and showed him the door.
this is quite the surprise to awake to this morning. They have Chris Young who is a STUD, Justin Upton who'll be a superstar, Carlos Quentin among other options - Jerry Davanon has been back almost a month too. I can't figure it out.
I think it says for this board the GMJ deal was a sound one even though roundly criticizied by others (not by me - it was market rate as this attests).
I just can't figure it out. A poor OF FA crop coming? Josh Byrnes is smarter than this - there's something i'm not seeing. Maybe they just don't want a distraction as the NL West title is in sights - that's all can figure out.

It's worse... if you look at the BTF thread, one of the posters relayed a question and answer session with GM Josh Byrnes in which he threw cold water on the prospect of re-signing the Snakes' OF, saying "OF depth was the strength of the organization". Guess not.
