Matthews Sucks! No, He's Great! Angels 3, Blue Jays 1

Evelyn Mulwray: My sister, my daughter.

Jake Gittes: I said I want the truth!
Evelyn Mulwray: She's my sister AND my daughter!
There was a moment in Chinatown where Jake Gittes confronts Evelyn Mulwray about the nature of her relationship with the film's MacGuffin, her daughter and her sister. The duality of that scene and its shocking, violent urges reminds me of my general feelings about Gary Matthews, Jr.'s ability in the field: he's bad one moment, losing focus on a routine flyball, and good the next, getting a single, a stolen base, and ultimately, a run scored on Gregg Zaun's throwing error. But maybe it's just that I felt like slapping him after that fly.

Whatever, Escobar came up huge (again) against the Jays for the second time this month, and the Angels walk away with a split. Hold on for tonight's game in Texas...

Update: Rangers win 5-3. Two games up!
