Minor League Scorebook
Evans: 3-6, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Wood: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Porter: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Gorneault: 2-3, 2 BB
Murphy: 1-3, 2 BB
Wilson: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 K
Smith, Ca: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Santana: (W, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 13 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 6.05 ERA
Maybe they have the wrong catcher at the big club: Bobby Wilson belted a three run homer, his second jack of the season, on his way to driving in six, a career high. With the 3-for-6 night, Wilson extended his hitting streak to eight games, batting .321 since joining Salt Lake.
Terry Evans drove in a pair and also went 3-for-6; Nick Gorneault got on base four times, and Casey Smith went 3-for-4, missing the cycle by a home run. Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 with an RBI batting leadoff in his first rehab game.
Ervin Santana collected his first season win with AAA Salt Lake, but looked awful doing so, giving up 13 hits but walking only one. Whatever is wrong with him remains stubbornly wrong, and he's looking more and more like a lost cause for 2007. (Yes, I know, small sample size, but these are AAA hitters. C'mon.)
Morrissey: 3-6, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-5
Collins: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Fuller: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Butcher: (L, 1-1), 4.0 IP, 8 R, 8 ER, 7 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 3 HR, 5.40 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.99 ERA
Brok Butcher's second consecutive bad start, and the first one for which he took the loss, giving up eight runs, all earned, including three homers. You make mistakes, bad things happen. Not so much for Rafael Rodriguez, who seems to be settling down some since his adventures earlier in the season; he hasn't allowed an earned run in his last six games/7.1 innings.
Michael Collins is one Trav who's sorry to see July go; he finished the month hitting .325/.360/.413, a pretty good line for a catcher. Too bad he's been converted to first ...
Statia: 1-5
Pettit: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Remole: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Mosebach: (W, 11-6), 7.0 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 4.27 ERA
Arredondo: (S, 4), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 6.65 ERA
A nice followup to Bobby Mosebach's complete game, this time posting seven innings of three earned run ball, the one unearned run coming on Tadd Brewer's throwing error in the fourth. Lancaster used that three-run inning to pull ahead, but the Quakes tied it in the fifth and went ahead for good in the sixth, scoring four runs, in part on doubles by Tadd Brewer and Christopher Pettit. Pettit extended his hitting streak to 15 games; Remole has an eight-game hitting streak going, and a 16-game on-base streak.
Nieves: 3-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Conger: 2-5, 1 K
Trumbo: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Mendoza: (W, 1-3), 5.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 5.24 ERA
Holler: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 3.63 ERA
Madrigal: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
Hank Conger and Mark Trumbo both had a pair of hits to open August. Tommy Mendoza pitched five strong innings to get the win, his only run allowed coming on RF Tyler Johnson's fielding error on Jonathan Jaspe's double.
Navarro: 2-3
Jimenez: (W, 3-1), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 2.85 ERA
Brasier: (S, 4), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 2.30 ERA
Might be nothing, might be something: Esmerlin Jimenez has posted as many strikeouts as innings in each of his last three games. Ryan Brasier continued his impressive work, fanning four and allowing only his sixth walk of the season.
LaRoche: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
McDougall: 2-4
Freeman: 3-4, 1 2B
Lundberg: 6.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 5.36 ERA
Riley: (L, 4-2) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 6.44 ERA
Andy LaRoche started his August with another home run, a two-run shot in the fourth. Spike Lundberg pitched 6.2 innings of three-run ball, a quality start plus.
Howard, K: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Concepcion: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Dewitt: 1-5
Ellis: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K
Tomlin: 2-5, 2 RBI
Nicholson: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Hammes: 0-2
Alexander: 0-1, 1 K
Dunlap: 1-1, 1 RBI
Hammes: 4.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 4.08 ERA
Alexander: (W, 4-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 4.06 ERA
Troncoso: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.47 ERA
Jacksonville beat Carolina thanks to a six-run seventh that included an Alberto Concepcion, Jr. three-run homer. Mark Alexander seems to be rounding back into form, too, with six straight games allowing no earned runs, and a 16.76 K/9 over that span (18:2 K:BB ratio).
De Jesus: 1-5, 1 K
Hoffmann: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Locke: 2-4
White, C: (W, 1-1), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 4.70 ERA

Adkins: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 2.00 ERA
Castillo: (L, 2-8) (in relief), 4.1 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 4.97 ERA

Silverio: 2-4
Rondon: (W, 4-1), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 3.07 ERA
Perez, E: (S, 4), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.66 ERA
Watt: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1.35 ERA
Suspended due to rain, scheduled for completion on August 6. (They finally started including this data. Yay!)
