Minor League Scorebook
News
Pat O'Connor is running for president — of MiLB, that is. National Association President Mike Moore, in office since December 1991, will be stepping down this December during the Winter Meetings.Scores
Evans: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Wood: 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Morales: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 BB
Murphy: 2-5, 1 K
Duff: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Bonilla: (W, 9-6), 5.2 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 5.77 ERA
Thompson: 1.1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.69 ERA
Bulger: (S, 8), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 3.92 ERA
It sure didn't take Erick Aybar long to get back into the swing of things at Salt Lake. That bothers me some because his bat has been so bad at the major league level (.236/.280/.268 with only eight walks in 135 PA) that I began to wonder whether he had blackmail pictures of Scioscia... Terry Evans continued his U-turn from that dreadful slump he was in earlier, and Tommy Murphy had a 2-for-5 night, but the big contributor was 27-year-old catcher Tim Duff, having a big two-hit game with an RBI single and a two-run homer in only his second career game at AAA.
Henry Bonilla got the win despite an unimpressive outing, and Jason Bulger notched his eighth save of the year. Former Dodger prospect Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo homer in the fourth for the Isotopes.
Myers: 0-2, 2 BB
Collins: 3-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Green: (W, 8-6), 7.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 3.91 ERA
O'Day: (S, 5), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.71 ERA
Nick Green is on a tear, getting his fifth straight quality-or-better start, though he only has two wins to show for it in that time. Michael Collins was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk, and driving in half the Travs' runs. The win snapped a four-game losing streak, and finds Arkansas only two games out of the division lead.
Statia: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Pettit: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Reilly: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Toussaint: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Infante: 2-5, 1 2B
Wipke: 0-2, 2 BB
Jepsen: (BS, 2)(L, 1-5) (in relief), 0.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 4.25 ERA
That's three rough starts in a row for Tim Schoeninger, and the first one in which he didn't get a win. He's only produced two quality starts since being promoted to Rancho, and in this game he gave up four runs over five innings, all earned, while surrendering two homers.
Kevin Jepsen took the loss after giving up a leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth and got two more runs charged to him after walking the bases loaded (three consecutive walks!), and Doug Brandt allowed an RBI single to cash in two of those.
The Quakes left the tying run at third with one out when neither Drew Toussaint nor Larry Infante were able to cash him in.
Phillips: 0-3, 1 K
Conger: 2-4, 2 RBI
Herndon: (L, 8-8), 5.1 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 4.64 ERA
The Kernels lost, but Hank Conger continues to hit; he's had two or more hits (but only one walk) in six of the ten games he's appeared in since returning from the DL on July 21. Ryan Mount homered, his third of the year.
Gronkowski: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Veras: (L, 4-4), 4.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 7.59 ERA
West: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.57 ERA
Vladimir Veras kept leaking runs one at a time through the fifth, getting torched by Jaime Pedroza for a leadoff solo homer, earning him the hook. It was the second solo shot he gave up, the other being to Travis Vetters in the second. Veras did manage to strike out five while only walking one, though he also put a runner in scoring position on a balk &mdash and yes, he did score (Jovanny Rosario in the third).
Gordon Gronkowski's now in a legitimate slump, having gone four straight games without a hit. 3B Jay Brossman is having a very nice season so far, hitting .395/.439/.529 with four home runs and 11 doubles.
Wing: 2-2, 2 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Tobin: 4.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.95 ERA
Reckling: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Another fine start for Mason Tobin, who went four scoreless frames and has given up only three earned runs all year. Trevor Reckling has done him one better, going 12 innings over four games and has yet to give up an earned run while striking out 17. The Angels held their opponents to four hits.
Hu, C: 0-4
LaRoche: 0-4, 3 K
McDougall: 2-4, 1 K
Juarez: (L, 4-6), 5.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 2 HR, 5.64 ERA
Meloan: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1.23 ERA
William Juarez was outpitched by Matt Wright, who allowed a run on five hits over seven.
Dunlap: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Dewitt: 0-3, 1 BB
Miller: 0-1
Miller: (L, 0-1), 3.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 4.72 ERA
De Jesus: 0-2
Rogowski: 2-3
Bastardo: 4.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 5.16 ERA
Castillo, J: (W, 4-7) (in relief), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 4.49 ERA
Lucas May followed up Jamie Hoffman's leadoff triple in the second with a sac fly, and that was the only run in the game. Alberto Bastardo and Jesus Castillo combined to two-hit the Storm.
Rivera, J: 0-1
Santana: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K
Mattingly: 0-2, 1 RBI
Coleman: (L, 1-2), 7.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 4.50 ERA
Ortiz: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Vetters: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Brown: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Diaz: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 5.33 ERA
Brooks, D: 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 6.11 ERA
Sartor: (S, 1), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
