2007-08-10: Portland 4, Salt Lake 7 #
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Murphy: 0-4
Evans: 0-4, 1 K
Wood: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Smith, Ca: 3-4, 2 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI
Liriano: 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 5.54 ERA
Wilhite, M: (BS, 3), 0.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.43 ERA
Thompson: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.35 ERA
I was listening to the postgame show coming back from Angel Stadium, when one of the callers asked about likely callups when rosters expanded. Terry Smith mentioned a whole host of names, none of whom were Rich Thompson. That's too bad, because he's having a great season at AAA Salt Lake, having turned around his career from a couple of really forgettable seasons in Rancho and Arkansas in 2005-2006. He's striking guys out (12.10 K/9 in a small-sample-sized 14.0 IP with Salt Lake) and posting a very, very good 2.79 ERA, all this as a 23-year-old.

Nick Gorneault's three-run homer in the seventh sealed the game for the Bees. Bobby Wilson extended his on-base streak to nine games, and drove in Casey Smith for the tying run in the same frame. Most of the Bees' offense came against the Beavers' bullpen, as Clay Hensley, recently demoted from San Diego, only allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

2007-08-10: Corpus Christi 3, Arkansas 5 #
Smith, Co: 2-2
Sandoval, F: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI
Rodriguez, S: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Collins: 0-4
Gonzalez, M: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 9 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 2.84 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.47 ERA
O'Day: (W, 3-3) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.38 ERA
The Travs finally beat the Hooks, principally on the strength of Freddy Sandoval's four-run game, two coming on a triple with a pair on. Darren O'Day retired all four batters he faced, and picked up the win in relief.
2007-08-10: Inland Empire 0, Rancho Cucamonga 5 #
Statia: 1-3, 1 BB
Infante: 2-2, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Wipke: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
McRobbie: (W, 4-1), 9.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 7 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 3.75 ERA
Alex McRobbie pitched a complete game shutout, his second of the season. Though several 66ers reached third, none of them scored. Flint Wipke blasted his second homer of the season, a leadoff shot in the bottom of the third.

For Inland Empire, Jesus Rodriguez struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh. Lucas May and Drew Locke both had a two-fer night, all four hits singles.

2007-08-10: South Bend 3, Cedar Rapids 6 #
Bourjos: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Phillips: 2-4, 1 RBI
Sweeney: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Trumbo: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mount: 0-3, 1 K
Smith: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
O'Sullivan: (W, 8-6), 6.2 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 2.37 ERA
Madrigal: (S, 13), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
Sean O'Sullivan's second consecutive win and his fourth straight quality start; he had no earned runs, as all three runs scored following second baseman Ryan Mount's seventh inning catch error. The Kernels gave O'Sullivan great run support, getting homers from three different players: Mark Sweeney picked up his 16th, a two run jack; Peter Bourjos hit his third, and Stantrel Smith hit his fifth, the latter two solo shots. Warner Madrigal extended his stretch of scoreless games to three; he's only allowed one run since June 16, with a 10.73 K/9 while sporting a 3.10 K/BB ratio.
2007-08-10: Helena 3, Orem 0 #
Gronkowski: 2-4, 2 K
Estrella: 2-4
Perez: 0-4, 4 K
Walden: (L, 1-1), 5.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 4.46 ERA
2007-08-10: AZL Angels 8, AZL Athletics 5 #
Fuller: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 K
Garcia: 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 K
Norman: 2-5, 1 3B, 1 K
Anton: 3.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 3.80 ERA
Short: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
McKiernan: (S, 4), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1.86 ERA
Something else I heard in yesterday's postgame show from the Angels: some guy calling up about this player who's suddenly hitting a lot of home runs, and it really got me scratching my head. Right now, Seth Loman has the team lead with six, but he hasn't played since August 7, so I assume he was injured at some point.

Michael Anton sure seems to be laying them low, sporting an 11.18 K/9, but he's still giving up a ton of hits, on a 1.27 WHIP. Every batter but two got a hit, but two runs were unearned thanks to three A's errors.

2007-08-10: Sacramento 9, Las Vegas 7 #
Valdez: 2-4, 1 BB
Hu, C: 0-5, 1 K
Lindsey: 2-3, 1 RBI
Hillenbrand: 3-4, 2 RBI, 1 K
Barnes: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Stults: (L, 5-7), 2.1 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 5 BB, 1 HR, 7.56 ERA
Fussell: 1.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 4.78 ERA
Meloan: 2.1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1.54 ERA
Riley: 2.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 5.93 ERA
A couple of old friends in this game, as Shea Hillenbrand made his Dodgers debut, and Jeff DaVanon made his first appearance in the Oakland system this year; it was his second tour overall, because he was originally signed by them. Hillenbrand went 3-for-4 with two RBIs batting fifth and playing third base, while John Lindsey DH'd and Larry Barnes played first. Meantime, the Human Walk Machine went 1-for-2 with four walks, batting leadoff. Former Angel Lou Merloni blasted a solo homer for the River Cats.

Eric Stults started and took the loss after only 2.1 innings of work, walking five, striking out two, and surrendering the Merloni homer.
