Minor League Scorebook

News

Howie Kendrick will remain in the minors for at least a "day or two" while the Angels settle their relief situation. Kendrick did not play in tonight's contest, and he was believed to have been called up for the Yankees series. Erick Aybar may need to hit the DL with a hamstring problem (again?).

Jonathan Rouwenhorst got shelled by the Grizzlies and that was the game, as the Bees lacked sufficient firepower against an offense that had two players miss a cycle by one hit. Brandon Wood got a silver sombrero on the evening.

Michael Davitt made his longest start of the year and still didn't qualify for the win in a laugher that featured an eight-run fourth and four three-run innings besides. Jeremy Moore and Anel De Los Santos both drove in four runs apiece. Jerry Gonzalez-Lopez homered (his third of the year) in the second, De Los Santos homered to start off the eighth, and Donato Giovanatto homered to lead off the ninth.

The still scary hot Gordon Gronkowski (.370/.440/.552) was replaced by pinch-hitter Derrick Thomas, who went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair.

Kyle Wilson earned his 13th save of the season while giving up a run; he has not had a blown save all year, but he does seem to be tiring, as he's given up three of the four earned runs he's allowed this year in his last four games.

Why is it that not all of the names of players that played in the games appear on your wrap-up?

I notice that you leave the same ones off each time.

AAA- Casey Smith, Greg Porter
Last night Porter went 1 for 3 with a run scored. He also went in in the 4th when Evans was HBP

Players whose last names are in bold are on the Baseball America top 30 list, or else made the list for other reasons (e.g. first-round draftee, or in the case of the Dodgers' Joris Bert, is a player from France). Results from such players are always presented.

Players whose last names are presented in normal text have done something interesting, "interesting" being defined as having a multi-hit game, hitting a home run, or on the pitching side, winning or losing the game, getting one strikeout per inning pitched, or earning a hold or a save. I tend to focus on the positive events because there's so much failure.

Getting back to Greg Porter, he didn't make BA's list this year but there's good reason to think that he will do so next year what with all the promotions going on in the Angels system.
