Shields Down: Yankees 8, Angels 2

Lackey battled his command a good bit in this game, throwing 104 pitches, 64 for strikes; considering the offensive firepower on the other side, he had a decent game. The Angels never really got a chance against Andy Pettitte, though, and he dominated save for a solo homer by Orlando Cabrera.

Of more concern, however, was yet another bad outing by Scot Shields. Shields gave up three runs while making only one out, and one begins to suspect medical problems.

The Angels sweep the Pythagorean series, though. It's cold comfort with the M's losing earlier in the day.

Update: The Halos got one run in the ninth with a Maicer Izturis RBI single, but Casey Kotchman came in and got hit on the hand in a pinch-hitting appearance. He finished his at-bat, but everyone will be holding their breath until we hear about the X-ray results.

Incidentally, with the win, Joe Torre got his 1,150th career victory as a manager, passing Casey Stengel on the Yankees managerial win toteboard.
