Waiting For Stephen Smith's Retraction: Blue Jays 5, Angels 4

Ervin Santana blew up for five runs in today's game, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth, all of them earned, this after his petulant little whining session about how the media misquotes him. After Stephen Smith's "DROP DEAD" post following exactly one good major league outing by Santana, I wonder whether we'll see a retraction.

Nah.

Update: Vlad ripped a solo homer in the eighth, his second longball in the game, but otherwise the Angels pissed away opportunity after opportunity, with GMJ blowing it by hitting into a (wholly predictable) double play. I've said this before and been ridiculed for it, but with the Mariners beating Texas 9-4 earlier, the Angels' lead in the division is down to one, and the postseason is once again starting to look very questionable. What a miserable, dispiriting game.

In the fifth inning, he had two outs and gave up a couple of seeing-eye ground ball hits. He could easily have been out of the inning on either of those. Then a double and a wild pitch + error. So I don't think he was all that bad today and could easily have put in another solid game. I'm trying to remain optimistic for his next outing.

I would like to remain optimistic. His inconsistency was, is, and will be a problem. To that end, he can just shut up and pitch. If he doesn't have the guts to take people questioning his bad performances, he's in the wrong business.
