Bryan Smith Chat Excerpts

Excerpts from Bryan Smith's Baseball Prospectus chat today:
scareduck (7 mi. WSW Of Angels Stadium): Has Nick Adenhart's tepid performance in the Texas League materially altered his value? His strikeout rates especially don't seem to be that impressive, and he seemed prone to big games.

Bryan Smith: Certainly the strikeouts were strange, and if you look at a lot of high-profile guys that hit Double-A, a lot of them struggled to get whiffs. But in a hard league for hitters, I love that Adenhart only allowed 7 home runs. This kid is a smart pitcher on the mound, and with his stuff, that will get him somewhere. Adenhart is fine, probably in the same prospect range as last year.

Tom (Bleeding Dodger Blue): Bryan it has been sad watching my beloved Dodgers fall out of the race. While Penny and Billingsley have been good, i'm anxious to see what Kershaw and McDonald can bring to this team. Do you think they'll be ready by next year? Who would you compare each to?

Bryan Smith: Well I don't think you'd want to push him. I think Kershaw could be ready, but like Buchholz, you bring him up and then he starts getting past 150 innings, and Will and I both start to worry. Let's not let that happen with either, and just bring them both to Spring Training in 2009 with the intention that they'll be in your rotation. Why can't that work for us all?
