Padres Waive Marcus Giles

The Padres placed Marcus Giles on waivers, an act that will cost them $500,000 to buy out his 2008 option.

I always thought that Giles was a pretty good player. I was surprised to see him go. Did the Padres give any reason why they were cutting him?

The main reason is that he played like shit for almost the entire season, and the second reason is that Craig Stansberry and/or Matt Antonelli can outperform Giles for the league minimum.
