STFU, Gonzo
Wow. Via SOSG, which see:
Commenters on Diamond Leung have made the comment that Gonzalez's quote lacks logic (which it does) and may make no sense (true). But what is really striking to me is the point that there was no gameplan uniting the team that this player could understand. Is that the player's fault, or management's?Yes, indeedy. Whose fault was that, hmm, Ned?

No gameplan? I'm not the world's biggest defender of Grady and Ned, but baseball isn't exactly football with game planning. Unless your manager puts a sign on, you step up, see a few pitches and hit the ball. I know that's oversimplifying quite a bit, but still. This reeks of Gonzo placing blame everywhere but where it belongs, on his decaying baseball corpse.
I hear you MSTI. I guess my point is, if you come into work one day, and your boss tells you you're the guy and puts you on the big account, and then the next day he puts you downstairs in the basement with a red stapler, and then the day after that you're kind of the guy but you're on a mid-sized account (but without said stapler)--you'd wonder what the hell was going on here, as well as where the hell your stapler was. And that mercurial way of managing may work in AYSO but it is ridiculous for a MLB team. So I do blame the three-headed hydra of Grady/Ned/Frank for letting this even percolate in the first place (corpse or no corpse).
Fair points Sax. But I think Gonzo should have known exactly what he was in for this season. He was to come in and cover LF until one of the following 2 things happened:
1) Ethier and/or Kemp stepped up to take it away
or
2) Gonzo proved he was cooked.
As it happened, he helped us out before the all star break, but in the second half, BOTH of those things happened. So where's the surprise?

Touche, msti. Agreed that both points were evident, and for all he "he's a good guy" comments we've heard about Gonzo, I'm surprised he couldn't elevate among the flotsam to say the right things. Isn't that what veterans are there for--to lead by example?
In other news, I suppose the surprise is that Juan-for-four will end up being Gonzo's replacement next year. That should get Luis' blood boiling.
P.s. Thanks Rob for letting us vent on your post. Man, either MSTI or i should take our debates elsewhere. If only one of us had a blog...
