Angels Introduce Hunter Despite Lack Of Contract
Now that's interesting.
Torii Hunter got a news conference from the Los Angeles Angels even before he finalized his contract. There's a certain, uh, sloppiness that seems to operate in the young Reagins administration.Hunter was introduced Wednesday along with Jon Garland, acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Hunter, a seven-time Gold Glove center fielder, reached a preliminary agreement Nov. 21 on a $90 million, five-year contract but has yet to finalize the deal.
"We're just working out the final details of Torii's contract and that should be done relatively quickly," new Angels general manager Tony Reagins said. "He hasn't officially written his name, but we've agreed to all the terms."

Is that true? Unbelievable. Could you imagine if they hit some last-second negotiating snag and the deal falls through? Or if Hunter somehow gets injured before he can sign, and the Angels back out? The repercussions would be awesome. And hilarious.
Actually, something like this sounds familiar - the part about having an introductory press conference before a contract is actually signed. I think the Angels have done this before. In other words, it's not a "Reagins" thing. I could be wrong, as I cannot remember who was involved. Heck, it might have been with GMJr. last year.
