Nick Adenhart In The Rotation? Angels 8, Giants 1
After an especially good outing by Nick Adenhart, people are starting to talk like he belongs in the rotation. I would remind those making such noises to consider the fact that Adenhart had a 6.86 K/9 facing the considerably lesser batters of the Texas League. It's also worth remembering what his Cactus League opposition has been thus far:
- March 15, against a typical spring lineup from Arizona, a team that, even at full strength in 2007, scored the third fewest runs in the National League.
- Adenhart collected a win in relief, pitching four innings on March 10 against a B-team squad of Athletics.
- A 2.2-inning start on March 5 against a typical spring lineup of the Mariners.
- A February 29 game against the Rangers with much of the regular squad intact (but very early in spring training).

But let's also remember what the actual question is.
It's not whether Adenhart "belongs" in the rotation at this point. It's this: Given the choice between Dustin Moseley, a so-so pitcher who had surgery in the off-season, and Nick Adenhart, an unfinished product with good mental makeup and terrific stuff when he's not being too fine, who should pitch the 5-8 games while Lackey & Escobar are out?
Given that question, there's a reasonable case to be made for giving Adenhart a 1-2 month cup of coffee.
