2008-04-10: Salt Lake 10, Tucson 1 #

Wilson: 1-6, 1 RBI, 1 K
Evans: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Morales: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Brown, M: 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Wood: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 BB
Sandoval, F: 4-5, 2 2B
Loux: (W, 2-0), 7.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.71 ERA
Thompson: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 9.00 ERA
Arredondo: 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
New day, new record: Now it's 8-0, and as with every victory in this improbable string, it's setting a franchise record. Shane Loux pitched seven innings of scoreless ball to bring his record to 2-0, helped out by an offense that built a 9-0 lead after only five innings. Brandon Wood hit his third homer of the season (now hitting seventh!). (Update: corrected for Matt Brown and Freddie Sandoval, who did not homer in this game. Thanks to Seitz for the correction.)
2008-04-10: Arkansas 4, Midland 11 #
Smith, Coby: 2-4, 1 BB
Statia: 0-5
Johnson: 2-4, 1 RBI
Collins: 2-4, 1 2B
Peel, A: 3-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Renz: 2-4, 2 RBI
Rodriguez, Fe: (L, 0-2), 4.1 IP, 9 R, 7 ER, 11 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 8.71 ERA
The Travs are a miserable 0-6 after this outing, which wasn't helped by 40 MPH winds blowing out to center. Aaron Peel homered in the loss.
2008-04-10: Visalia 0, Rancho Cucamonga 4 #
Bourjos: 1-4
Phillips: 1-4, 1 K
Trumbo: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Toussaint: 2-3
Norman: 2-2, 1 BB
Bell: (W, 1-0), 7.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 2.31 ERA
Of course, I pulled the plug on Bell before I finished this recap (it's a work in progress) and what does he do but throw a seven-inning shutout with a strikeout per inning. Maybe he saw this coming when he didn't make the latest BA list.
2008-04-10: Quad Cities vs. Cedar Rapids: Cancelled #
Due to rain; the two teams will not play each other in the first half of the Midwest League season, and so the game will not be rescheduled.
2008-04-10: Orem did not play
2008-04-10: AZL Angels did not play
2008-04-10: Colorado Springs 2, Las Vegas 6 #
Repko: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Paul: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Tiffee: 3-3
Griffin: 0-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Howard, K: 0-1, 3 BB
Meloan: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K
Meloan: (W, 1-0), 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 2.70 ERA
Koplove: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1.59 ERA
A very nice outing for Jonathan Meloan, who notched his first victory and struck out six through six innings while walking only three. The 51's put up a pair in the first on a bases-loaded groundout by John-Ford Griffin and Angel Chavez's RBI single, and never looked back.
2008-04-10: Jacksonville 0, Tennessee 2 #
De Jesus: 1-3, 1 BB
Mitchell: 2-4, 1 K
Kershaw: 0-1
Kershaw: (L, 0-2), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 8 K, 2 BB, 3.38 ERA
Hammes: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
The Minotaur returns but unfortunately his line was pretty weak in this game, by his lofty standards; of course, he's not inhuman, and two losses isn't the end of the world. It helps ease the sting some that the pitcher who beat him was Cubs #8 pitching prospect Jeff Samardzija, a former two-way player at Notre Dame who owned every receiving record at that school. Samardzija four-hit the Suns through seven, and Tennessee's three relievers were equally stingy, allowing only a walk and a hit through two.
2008-04-10: Inland Empire 10, High Desert 11 #
Bell: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Berezay: 0-2, 3 BB
Santana, C: 2-3, 2 2B, 2 BB
Perez: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Pedroza: 2-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Adkins: 4.0 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3.38 ERA
Pratt: (BS, 1), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1.69 ERA
Leach: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1.80 ERA
A tough game to lose, this was a slugfest from almost the beginning as High Desert posted three runs in the first, and the 66ers answered back immediately in the top of the second with three of their own. Inland Empire kept banging away, making the score 9-4 going into the seventh, but the melted down in the bottom half of the frame as Alberto Bastardo and Jason Pratt combined to give up six runs, all earned. High Desert won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a one-out RBI single to Trayvon Robinson.
2008-04-10: Great Lakes vs. West Michigan: Postponed #
Due to rain; the game will be made up but no date has been announced.
2008-04-10: Ogden did not play
2008-04-10: GCL Dodgers did not play
