Scores

2008-04-11: Portland 11, Salt Lake 9 #
Coon: 2-5, 1 K
Wilson: 1-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Evans: 2-5, 1 2B, 3 K
Morales: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Wood: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 0-3, 1 BB
Sandoval, F: 3-4, 2 2B
Patchett: 1-2, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Olenberger: (L, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 4.15 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 10.38 ERA
Make that 8-1. Kasey Olenberger lost to former Dirtbags Saturday starter Cesar Ramos, putting an end to the streak. Brandon Wood's heating up, getting his second dinger in as many days, and his second multi-hit game, too. Gary Patchett also homered, and Kendry Morales chipped in with a double and an RBI.

As with the parent club, the Salt Lake bullpen is shaky in the early going, with Jeff Kennard and Matt Wilhite burying the Bees under seven runs, six earned.

2008-04-11: Arkansas 4, Midland 5 #
Smith, Coby: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Statia: 0-4
Collins: 2-3, 1 2B
Smith, Cor: 2-4
Duff: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 K
Sutton: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Butcher: 3.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 6 BB, 2.79 ERA
Edwards: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 1.69 ERA
Rodriguez, Fr: 2.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 4.76 ERA
Marek: (BS, 1)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 7.36 ERA
The Travs were one out away from forcing this one into extras when Stephen Marek gave up a walkoff RBI double to Brian Snyder. Brok Butcher pitched a wobbly 3.2 innings (six walks?). I expect to hear more comings and goings presently.
2008-04-11: Visalia 3, Rancho Cucamonga 1 #
Bourjos: 1-4
Phillips: 0-4, 1 K
Mendoza: (L, 0-1), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 4.09 ERA
Incinelli: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 5.14 ERA
The Mendoza line in this game was three runs, one unearned thanks to a Peter Bourjos fielding error in center, six hits, and five strikeouts — not too shabby. Too bad the offense couldn't support him.
2008-04-11: Lansing 0, Cedar Rapids 1 #
Fuller: 2-4, 1 K
Romine: 0-3, 1 BB
De Los Santos: 0-3, 1 K
Navarro: 3-3
Walden: (W, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 0.75 ERA
Brasier: (S, 3), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Gordon Gronkowski drove in the only run in this game in the bottom of the sixth when his RBI single knocked in Clayton Fuller. A terrific game for Jordan Wanden and the two relievers who followed him, Brian Chambers and Ryan Brasier, who collectively three-hit the Lugnuts, striking out six and walking two. Chambers did manage to hit two batters in the two frames he worked.

2008-04-11: AZL Angels did not play
2008-04-11: Las Vegas 9, Sacramento 3 #
Repko: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Paul: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Tiffee: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Lindsey: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Chavez, A: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Ellis: 3-3, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Stults: (W, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 9 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 5.79 ERA
Pollok: (S, 1), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.60 ERA
Las Vegas looks like they're starting to get their act together a bit. The 51's took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second off River Cats' starter Dan Meyer. Meyer eventually gave up five runs, all earned, and lasted only three innings; he was the key piece in the trade that sent Tim Hudson to Atlanta, but shoulder problems continue to plague him.

It's silly to read much into 12 innings of work, but if Walden keeps this up, do you think there's any chance he gets promoted to Rancho this year, or would they prefer to keep him out of that hitters' league for another year? He was certainly impressive in Rookie ball last year at Orem

The Travs needed a shakeup . That lineup they ran out for the opening home stand was pathetic. More crappy bats than a cave in New Zealand. At this point re-signing Adam Morrisey and adding czarnecki is a HUGE step up. At least now we have a couple of bats that have a chance at hitting AA pitching. The current team here in Arkansas is a sad group (offensively). I anxiously await the second half or next year when the RC players arrive.
