Minor League Scorebook
News
- Aaron Peel broke his left clavicle in a collision at the plate with Midland catcher Anthony Recker Sunday, and was placed on the DL today. The Angels promoted OF Cliff Remole from Rancho. There was no corresponding move from Cedar Rapids, but that may just be a delay in newsfeeds.
- Nomar Garciaparra's rehab stint completely passed me by, and he was supposed to be in LA yesterday just in time for today's demoralizing loss (about which, more later).
- "Utility infielder Ramon Martinez, who was on a minor league assignment in Las Vegas, hurt his right thumb on a diving play Saturday and was in Los Angeles for an MRI exam to determine whether he has a torn ligament."
- Jeff Weaver has signed an "incentive-laden" deal with the Brewers.
- Ex-Dirtbag Evan Longoria went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in his first
major league appearanceappearance against the Yankees, in a contest the Rays ultimately lost, 8-7. - Update: Matt Brown was named PCL Hitter of the Week. No Dodger or Angel prospect was named Pitcher of the Week.
- Here's the weekly league notebooks.

11-1, and Freddie Sandoval and Sean Rodriguez homered, and Brandon Wood doubled. Nick Adenhart posted a wobbly six frames but got the job done despite walking four and striking out only one...

Nice game for Kenneth Herndon even if he did have to take the tough-luck loss.
Fuller: 0-4
Romine: 0-4, 1 K
De Los Santos: 0-4, 2 K
Tobin: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA
Ford: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Mason Tobin hasn't been scored on in 13 innings of work so far this year. Bummer if you happened to be Justin Miller, his Loons opponent in this one.
Garciaparra: 3-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Tiffee: 2-5, 1 RBI
Griffin: 0-3, 2 BB
Howard, K: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K

Paul: 0-3
LaMura: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 67.50 ERA
Miller: 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 7.27 ERA
Nomar made what may be his final appearance with the 51's before going back to the Dodgers, and he did well with a perfect day at the plate.
Kevin Howard and Danny Ardoin both homered in this loss, their second and first of the season, respectively, and both consecutively with no outs in the top of the fourth. The game essentially got away early from perpetual journeyman Jason Johnson, who gave up five runs over five innings. B.J. LaMura really allowed things to get out of hand, surrendering five while making only two outs; he twice walked the bases loaded in the same frame, and wasn't helped out by his defense (Xavier Paul mishandled a return throw on Nick Blasi's RBI single for an error).
May: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Gonzalez, J: 0-1, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
McDonald: 1-2, 1 K
McDonald: 5.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 9 K, 2 BB, 2.92 ERA
Akin: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 4 BB, 5.68 ERA
Brazoban: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Very solid game for James McDonald, who struck out more than a batter an inning here. Lucas May homered, his second of the year, and his second consecutive multihit game; he had a little three-game 0-fer slump prior to that, so it must have been a relief.
Yhency Brazoban made his fifth appearance this year, and extended his scoreless streak to 4.2 IP.
Perez: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Santana, C: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Sexton: (W, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.94 ERA
Leach: (S, 1), 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.23 ERA
Lambo: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Mattingly: 0-4, 1 K
Baez: 1-3, 1 BB
Miller: (L, 1-1), 4.1 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 0.63 ERA
Dutton: 3.2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 4.91 ERA

He appears to have played in the Baltimore series.
These two guys are days apart in age, and each is playing for his baseball future. I have to wonder if both aren't playing above their heads, while at the same time rooting for each. Can both win?
