News
Gameday has been extended to the AA level; you can now see 2007 Gameday (it's huge, but at least it's usable) as the baseball diamond icon in the box score page (click on the Arkansas game link below).Scores
Statia: 0-3, 1 RBI
Johnson: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Butcher: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 2.78 ERA
Marek: (H, 1), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 2.61 ERA
Jepsen: (S, 3), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.84 ERA
The Travs might be getting up off the mat just a little bit here, taking five of their last six, which unbelievably puts their 8-10 record first in the North Division (tied with Tulsa), i.e. the Texas South teams are clobbering everybody; even the worst team in the South, Padres' affiliate San Antonio, is 9-9.
Ben Johnson, formerly mired in a 9-for-55 skid (.164/.207/.255), busted out of it today with a fine showing, cracking a leadoff homer in the top of the ninth, and a pair of doubles besides. Brok Putcher pitched a quality start, six innings of three run ball while striking out five for the win. Stephen Marek got his first hold of the season, while Kevin Jepson notched his third save, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Trumbo: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Walker: 3-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Kiniry: 2-4
Mendoza: (W, 1-2), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 H, 1 K, 4 BB, 3.86 ERA
Arredondo: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.97 ERA
Rancho put up crooked numbers in three separate frames, and scored in four of eight to get this home victory. Mark Trumbo got two walks in one game after getting none in the previous five. Ex-Arkansas Hog catcher Brian Walker has a five game hitting streak going, and now has a .292/.327/.438 line on the young season. Rian Kiniry kept up his hot hitting from last night, going 2-for-4, and so did Drew Toussaint.
Tommy Mendoza picked up his first win, working fives of two-run ball, only one of which was earned thanks to a P.J. Phillips throwing error in the top of the third.
Fuller: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Walden: (L, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 9 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 1.90 ERA
Jordan Walden struck out a season high nine batters in this game but gave up three runs, all earned, two of which came on Todd Frazier's first inning homer.
Maza: 2-3, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Rundgren: 1-2, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Stults: (L, 1-2), 7.0 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 4.64 ERA
Troncoso: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 10.13 ERA
Hello, it's me... Actually, it's not 70's prog-rocker Todd but AAAA shortstop (and, surprisingly, son of same) Rex Rundgren who hit a solo homer in this game, a leadoff shot in the bottom of the third to give the 51's the early lead. Angel Chavez drove in Luis Maza to make it 2-0 but that was the last time Las Vegas would see a lead in this game, as the River Cats drove in two in the fifth off Eric Stults (who pitched a good game) and two more in the seventh, also charged to Stults, only one of which was earned thanks to Terry Tiffee's fielding error at third.
May: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 K
Mitchell: 3-6, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Hoffmann: 2-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Godwin: 2-4, 1 BB
Castillo, J: 6.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2.79 ERA
Brazoban: (H, 1), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Akin: (BS, 1)(W, 1-1) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 5.84 ERA
Jacksonville answered two early runs in the third with single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth, including a leadoff homer by Russell Mitchell. Montgomery knotted the score in the bottom of the ninth off Brian Akin, who stuck around long enough for his offense to make him the winning pitcher despite his first blown save. Jason Tomlin's RBI double proved to be the game winner.
Santana, C: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Giles: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 BB
Hunt: 2-4, 2 K
Robinson: 2-4, 2 K
Bastardo: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 6.60 ERA
Felix: (BS, 1)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 2.35 ERA
Lambo: 1-4, 1 K
Baez: 0-3, 1 K
Smit: 4.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 5.09 ERA
Blevins: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 3.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 0.63 ERA
Ramirez, M: (S, 6), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA
Quite a pitching duel between Kyle Smit and Travis Banward; Smit got knocked out in the fifth with one out after allowing a bunt single to Matthew Ray to load the bases, but Robert Blevins struck out Greg Dowling and got Michael Lissman to ground out to third to end the frame.
The only tally of the game came in the very weird third, when Pedro Baez reached and took second on Christian Vitters' throwing error. Travis Vetters was then declared out on batters' interference, and Joseph Becker lined out to second. With two down, Jovanny Rosario bunted for a single to third. Vitters botched his second chance and threw that ball away, too, allowing Baez to score.
The Loons weren't all that sharp, either, allowing 14 baserunners, and a fourth-inning balk by Smit that put baserunners on second and third; with two out, Smit got Vitters to whiff. The Loons got two force outs at the plate, a 5-2 force in the sixth, and the game-ending, rare 5-2-5 double play.
