News

The Angels have recalled Kendry Morales and optioned Jason Bulger to Salt Lake.

Scores

2008-04-20: Salt Lake 5, Portland 0 #
Coon: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Sandoval, F: 2-5, 1 2B
Morales: 1-4, 1 RBI
Brown, M: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Wood: 1-4, 1 K
Evans: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Adenhart: (W, 3-0), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 1.17 ERA
Thompson: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 2.57 ERA
Snore... what, another win? Okay, 16-1, and wake me when they start to lose ... seriously ... Brad Coon smacked a leadoff shot in the first which set the tone for the game, and was enough for an entire win, considering Nick Adenhart pitched six shutout frames, with five strikeouts, four hits, and three walks. Matt Brown also homered in the effort... Rich Thompson shut things down for the last two innings, striking out two and walking a pair.
2008-04-20: NW Arkansas 1, Arkansas 2 #
Fuller: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Statia: 0-3, 1 K
Sutton: 2-3
Denham: (W, 1-1), 5.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1.00 ERA
Jepsen: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.93 ERA
Not only do the Travs win the series, but they get the sweep, the winning tally coming on Cory Smith's steal of home in the fourth. Dan Denham picked up the win, his first of the season, while pitching 5.2 innings of no-hit ball; Francisco Rodriguez, Doug Brandt, and Kevin Jepsen made it a one-hitter through nine.
2008-04-20: Rancho Cucamonga 5, Stockton 14 #
Trumbo: 1-4
Phillips: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Kiniry: 1-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
Bell: (L, 1-1), 3.0 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.82 ERA
Browning: 1.1 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3.48 ERA
Another punishing blow, as Trevor Bell didn't make it into the fourth. CF Rian Kiniry made his first appearance this year after a thoroughly mediocre 2007 with Orem (.260/.337/.307), and homered. Not much else to recommend this one, as Rancho pitching yielded three dingers, and the only pitcher to escape unscathed was Marco Albano.
2008-04-20: Cedar Rapids 5, South Bend 2 #
Fuller: 0-5, 1 K
Romine: 0-4, 1 BB
De Los Santos: 2-3, 1 BB
Gonzalez-Lopez: 2-4, 1 2B
Tobin: (W, 3-0), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1.00 ERA
Brasier: (S, 5), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Mason Tobin continues to collect wins, though in this case barely, by going five and allowing a pair of earned runs.

2008-04-20: AZL Angels did not play
2008-04-20: Sacramento 5, Las Vegas 13 #
Repko: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Paul: 1-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Lindsey: 3-5, 1 RBI
Howard, K: 2-5, 2 K
Griffin: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Lombard: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Johnson: (W, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 2 HR, 9.87 ERA
Troncoso: 0.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 16.20 ERA
Myers: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.86 ERA
Pretty much a whomping, with the 51's posting crooked numbers in four different frames, the biggest being the five-run fifth that included a run scoring on Jason Repko's bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Old hand Jason Johnson got the win, his first, going six innings.
2008-04-20: Jacksonville 10, Montgomery 4 #
De Jesus: 1-5, 1 HR, 5 RBI
Jacobs: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Mitchell: 2-5, 1 2B
Rivera, R: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Hoffmann: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K
Gonzalez, J: 2-5, 1 K
Justis: 3-4, 1 3B
Kershaw: 5.2 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 1.83 ERA
Asadoorian: (W, 1-1) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 6.35 ERA
Mostly a laugher with the Minotaur on the mound, who only allowed a pair of runs while striking out five and walking two. The Suns scored the huge majority of their runs in the eight-run seventh, which included such improbable events as an Ivan De Jesus grand slam, and (perhaps less improbable) a solo homer by Greg Jacobs and a bases loaded walk by Adam Godwin.
2008-04-20: High Desert 0, Inland Empire 6 #
Rogowski: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Bell: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Santana, C: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Adkins: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 11 K, 1 BB, 1.89 ERA
Kutz: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 5.40 ERA
Leach: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 0.87 ERA
James Adkins just dominated in this one, striking out eleven in six frames. Given Kutz managed two scoreless innings, and Brent Leach closed things up. Six different 66ers had one RBI, so no real offensive standouts tonight, but three batters did got two-fer.
2008-04-20: Peoria 0, Great Lakes 2 #
Mathews: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Lambo: 2-4, 1 2B
Vetters: 2-4, 1 RBI
Lopez: 2-2, 2 BB
Baez: 0-4, 1 K
Van Slyke: 2-3
Miller: (W, 2-1), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 0.44 ERA
Ramirez, M: (S, 5), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Hell of a job by Justin Miller here, who went to a sub-1.00 ERA in this game.

Not that you commented negatively on, but at this point, the fact that Adenhart's k/9 is less than impressive is becoming less and less a concern (though I'd like him to keep the walks down). Granted, three of his starts have come on the road (though Vegas and Tucson aren't exactly sea level), but it's pretty impressive that he hasn't given up a homer yet, and seeing as how that's his strength, I'm not sure it's a statistical fluke.

I'll live with the lack of strikeouts if he can cut back on the free passes and keep the ball in the yard.

Yeah, I haven't said anything about Adenhart because he is what he is, and part of that package is a relatively low strikeout guy who will do all those things you mention if he's successful: keep the ball in the yard, not walk too many, make his outs. In other words, sort of a Jarrod Washburn type, with hopefully more groundball outs.
