Minor League Scorebook

Update: Just for giggles: yesterday's Angels and Dodgers minor league mini-recaps.

2008-05-17: Salt Lake 3, Sacramento 7 #
Coon: 1-3, 2 BB
Wilson: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Brown, D: 0-2, 3 BB, 1 K
Morales: 0-4, 1 K
Wood: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Adenhart: (L, 4-1), 5.1 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 5 BB, 2.23 ERA
Nick Adenhart's first game since his return to AAA, and the rust was on display... five walks, six earned runs, etc., etc., etc. Sacramento and the kind of plate discipline they insist on in the Oakland organization was not a good match for Nick.

Brandon Wood homered in the loss, a leadoff shot in the fourth.

2008-05-17: NW Arkansas 0, Arkansas 6 #
Statia: 0-4, 1 K
Johnson: 1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Czarniecki: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 3B
Remole: 2-4, 1 RBI
Duff: 1-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Rodriguez, Fe: (W, 3-4), 9.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 5.68 ERA
The Travs are only two games under .500 after this win, a complete game shutout by Fernando Rodriguez, and two games back of Northwest Arkansas for the division lead. (I fully expected Springfield to be there, but man was I wrong. Not paying attention.) Homers by Tim Duff (his ninth, leading the team) and Ben Johnson were the big blows.
2008-05-17: High Desert 2, Rancho Cucamonga 8 #
Bourjos: 1-5
Trumbo: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K
Phillips: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Infante: 2-3, 1 BB
Wipke: 3-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Rosario, An: 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 K
Bell: (W, 4-3), 7.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.45 ERA
Trevor Bell pitched another quality start plus, as the Quakes ground down High Desert pitching throughout the game.
2008-05-17: Clinton 10, Cedar Rapids 5 #
Fuller: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Romine: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
De Los Santos: 0-4, 2 K
Gonzalez-Lopez: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Fish: (L, 1-2), 5.0 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 9 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 6.35 ERA
Jimenez: 3.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 3.57 ERA
2008-05-17: Orem did not play
2008-05-17: AZL Angels did not play
2008-05-17: Las Vegas 10, Portland 3 #
Tiffee: 2-5, 1 K
LaRoche: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Lindsey: 3-4, 3 HR, 7 RBI
Repko: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Johnson: (W, 5-2), 6.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 8 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 4.63 ERA
Miller: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 7.20 ERA
Really? A catcher's interference call? Yup, against A.J. Ellis in the bottom of the seventh, allowing Will Venable to score in the next at-bat, Craig Stansberry's one-out sacrifice fly. But by that time, the 51's had pretty much pounded Portland into submission, scoring in crooked numbers in three frames with John Lindsey doing most of the damage himself, hitting three home runs in the game.
2008-05-17: Birmingham 11, Jacksonville 5 #
De Jesus: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Mitchell: 2-4, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Kershaw: 5.2 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 4 BB, 2.34 ERA
Sturtze: (BS, 2), 1.1 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 6.91 ERA
Asadoorian: (L, 3-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 7.57 ERA
Clayton Kershaw had an okay outing but couldn't make the final out of the sixth. Birmingham had this game tied 5-5 at the end of the seventh, but things really got out of hand in the top of the ninth, when the Barons scored six against reliever Rick Asadoorian, who took the loss without recording an out in that inning (he retired the side in order in the top of the eighth).
2008-05-17: Lake Elsinore 7, Inland Empire 8 #
Berezay: 2-5, 1 2B
Bell: 2-4, 2 K
Santana, C: 3-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Perez: 2-2, 1 BB
Schmidt: 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Adkins: 4.0 IP, 6 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.71 ERA
Meque: (BS, 1), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 4 BB, 2.84 ERA
Felix: (W, 2-2) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2.84 ERA
I guess we're supposed to be excited to see Jason Schmidt making a rehab appearance. In truth, he did pretty well, though James Adkins was another, much less successful, story. The 66ers won the game on a weird ninth inning: Bridger Hunt reached on a throwing error by 3B Rayner Contreras, and then Matt Berezay bunted for a single, with throwing errors recorded on the same play by 2B Eric Sogard and P John Madden. Not sure what that was about.
2008-05-17: Great Lakes 11, Dayton 3 #
Kanaby: 2-6, 1 RBI
Silverio: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Lambo: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K
Ortiz: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mattingly: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Fuller: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI
Baez: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 BB
Johnson: (W, 5-1), 7.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 1.42 ERA
Mattingly's first four-fer game of the season, coming in a real romp against Dayton, he fell a triple short of the cycle. Steven Johnson pitched a great seven innings of shutout ball.
2008-05-17: Great Lakes 7, Dayton 0 #
Silverio: 0-5, 2 K
Lambo: 1-5, 2 K
Ortiz: 1-2, 3 BB
Mattingly: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Fuller: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Baez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Garate: (W, 2-0), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 1.62 ERA
Dutton: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 2.73 ERA
The Loons swept the double header, though it's odd that both games were regulation rather than abbreviated seven inning affairs you usually see in makeups. Victor Garate pitched a scoreless five innings for the win; Given Kutz closed it out by putting up a goose egg for the ninth. He has yet to allow an earned run this year.
