Scoreless ties that go into extras are certainly interesting, and this one was no exception. Justin Orenduff pitched seven scoreless frames that included eight strikeouts. Yhency Brazoban, Greg Miller, and Mike Koplove combined for three more scoreless frames to get the 51's a win.

Andy LaRoche was used as a pinch hitter in the top of the eighth with a man on first and one out; he grounded into an inning-ending double play.
