Mota Meltdown: Dodgers 6, Brewers 4

Milwaukee had a clean 4-3 lead going into the top of the ninth; Derek Lowe was, once again, handing out line drives like speeding tickets at the Indy 500. Nevertheless, the Dodgers took advantage of Milwaukee's unsettled closer situation (and the fact that Gagne had been used a fair amount lately), smacking around Old Friend Guillermo Mota for his loss and their win.

I confess to being somewhat fearful that this will be a pyrrhic victory inasmuch as both Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones were both in the lineup; and in the one and two slots, no less. Their success (Pierre went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Jones went 2-for-5 with one RBI) will undoubtedly lead to more playing time for them and less for Andre Ethier. Ethier also had a big role in this game, entering as a ninth-inning pinch hitter and getting a crucial one-out single to put men on the corners. The guy who really might get his playing time cut down is 0-for-5 Matt Kemp. (The fact that Jeff Kent went 0-for-4 will undoubtedly be ignored, as will the fact that Delwyn Young has a .292 average.)
