Blue Jays Fire Manager John Gibbons
The Toronto Blue Jays fired manager John Gibbons and replaced him with former manager Cito Gaston. The team also fired hitting coach Gary Denbo, first base coach Ernie Whitt, and third base coach Marty Pevey, and will replace them with Gene Tenace, Nick Leyva, and Dwayne Murphy, respectively.
In light of GM J.P. Ricciardi's comments trashing Adam Dunn earlier in the week (via BTF) and his subsequent apology, one wonders how much longer Ricciardi will last at the helm of that club.
The Jays are presently in last place in the AL East, at 35-39. On the other hand, that still puts them at only four games out of .500 and leaves them with the best winning percentage of any last-place team in baseball, not that they hand out prizes for that sort of thing.
