News

More Angels roster shuffling, as RHP Brian Chambers was promoted to Rancho from Cedar Rapids, and RHP Cephas Howard will replace him from extended spring training.

Scores

2008-06-11: Tacoma 5, Salt Lake 7 #
Figgins: 1-5, 2 K
Brown, M: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Brown, D: 0-3, 2 BB
Sandoval, F: 1-2, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Patchett: 2-3, 1 RBI
Pavkovich: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Duff: 2-4, 1 K
Alvarado, C: 4.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 5 BB, 3.77 ERA
Wilhite, M: (W, 3-0) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 5.23 ERA
Bulger: (S, 5), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1.02 ERA
Chone Figgins made what I hope is his last rehab appearance with Salt Lake. Starter Giancarlo Alvarado didn't get through the fifth for the first time this year as a starter; Matt Wilhite got the win in relief.

Matt Brown cranked his 16th homer of the season, a two-out solo shot in the first that sparked a neat little rally that cost the Rainiers three runs on RBI singles from Gary Patchett and Adam Pavkovich.

2008-06-11: Arkansas 1, Springfield 6 #
Mosebach: (L, 5-4), 3.1 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3.87 ERA
The fact that there are no names emboldened here tells me that there is virtually no talent of interest at Arkansas this year. Pity.
2008-06-11: Rancho Cucamonga 1, High Desert 5 #
Mount: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Conger: 2-4, 1 2B
Trumbo: 1-4, 2 K
Phillips: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mendoza: (L, 3-7), 6.1 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.58 ERA
A flat game for the offense and nothing doing with starter Tommy Mendoza. Next.
2008-06-11: Cedar Rapids 4, Beloit 0 #
Fuller: 2-5, 1 RBI
Romine: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Estrella: 2-4
Jimenez: (W, 2-2), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 3.48 ERA
Towns: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.80 ERA
Remember AZL Angels whiz Esmerlin Jimenez? He got a win in his first start for Cedar Rapids ever. The Kernels scored single runs in four different innings, one of them unearned thanks to a throwing error in Andrew Romine's first-inning stolen base that allowed Romine to essentially score from first without a hit. The swipe was Romine's league-leading 24th.

2008-06-11: AZL Angels did not play
2008-06-11: Portland 9, Las Vegas 3 #
Repko: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Hu: 0-3, 1 BB
Paul: 1-4, 1 RBI
Chavez, A: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Pinango: (L, 3-4), 4.0 IP, 8 R, 8 ER, 10 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 3 HR, 5.63 ERA
Riley: 3.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 3.10 ERA
Jones, G: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 4.70 ERA
The 51's weren't able to do much against former Dirtbags Saturday starter Cesar Ramos, but the Beavers' offense pretty much shredded Miguel Pinango, sending him to the showers after only four. Pinango gave up three homers on a calm night; them's the breaks.
2008-06-11: Huntsville 5, Jacksonville 0 #
De Jesus: 1-3, 1 BB
Godwin: 0-2, 2 BB
Gutierrez, G: 0-2, 2 BB
LaMura: (L, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 4.26 ERA
Schlichting: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.50 ERA
Hammes: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 6.70 ERA
This is B.J. LaMura's fifth season in AA ball; he's 27, and this just can't be a good thing for his career. Nevertheless, it was a good game from an earned runs perspective (he gave up only two, three unearned due to a sloppy sixth with two errors), but he rightly got tagged for the loss as Huntsville starter Steve Hammond and two relievers pitched a two-hit shutout.
2008-06-11: Lake Elsinore 3, Inland Empire 4 #
Robinson: 2-4, 1 K
Santana, C: 1-4, 1 2B
Locke: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Giles: 2-3, 2 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Rodriguez, J: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.00 ERA
Felix: (W, 4-2) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 3.00 ERA
Meque: (S, 6), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.08 ERA
2008-06-11: Great Lakes 3, South Bend 0 #
Rosario: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Lambo: 0-4
Silverio: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mattingly: 1-3, 1 2B
Mathews: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Baez: 0-2, 1 BB
Johnson: (W, 8-2), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 3 BB, 2.60 ERA
Melgarejo: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.98 ERA
Ramirez, M: (S, 14), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.70 ERA

2008-06-11: GCL Dodgers did not play

Comments:
Conger is .342/.375/.553 in his last ten games.

I was going to note the same about Conger. Hitting .310 overall now.

Also: Trumbo now at a .915 OPS

Jason Bulger: K9 = 15.12 BB9 = 3.78 HR9 = 0.00

One thing Bulger has done consistently at every level is strike people out. If that guy can keep his other peripherals in line, he deserves another shot at the Halo's BP.
