Minor League Scorebook
News
- Something I wasn't aware of: major league players on rehab stints are expected to buy the postgame spreads. John Lackey "sprung for a half-dozen $500 meals from local restaurants during his three-game assignment".
- The Angels released 27-year-old RHP Bill Edwards, at his request. He left the team with a record of 0-2, with a 4.62 ERA, and had pitched for Arkansas over the last three seasons.
Scores
2008-06-22: Sacramento 6, Salt Lake 3 #
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Wood: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 K
Wilson: 1-1, 1 RBI
Adenhart: (L, 5-7), 4.2 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 4.73 ERA
Another lousy outing for Nick Adenhart and Brandon Wood, the former getting chased in the fifth, and the latter getting the strikeout hat trick. Sean Rodriguez belted a solo homer in the fifth off River Cats starter Dan Meyer, who posted a strong outing, striking out six and allowing only three runs (two earned) on four hits.
Wood: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 K

Adenhart's problem is working behind in the count:
"He's not getting ahead in the counts," said Bees manager Bobby Mitchell of Adenhart. "When he's working ahead in the counts he's tough because it forces the other team to swing at his change-ups. But when he falls behind hitters and they are patient with him then they are starting to hit him. He's been getting in trouble with some walks and with his command."Also: Matt Brown has a 30-game on-base streak, second longest in the PCL this year.
2008-06-22: Arkansas 1, NW Arkansas 2 (11 innings) #
Stavisky: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Johnson: 2-5, 1 2B
Ortiz, W: 0-2, 2 BB
Walker: 2-4, 1 2B
Rodriguez, Fe: 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 5.15 ERA
Marek: (L, 2-5) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.00 ERA
Quite a pitching matchup, but hanging the loss on Stephen Marek seems unfair, since it was Dan Davidson who allowed an inherited runner on first base to score. The Travs' only run came in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Brian Walker and Anderson Rosario, the latter's first at AA.

Robert Fish won his third straight decision and his fifth of his last six; in that span, he's posted quality starts in all but two. His offense supported him immediately after he gave up a run in the first, getting that back on Andrew Romine's sac fly, and three more on Julio Perez's homer; the Kernels never looked back.

Taylor: (S, 1), 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 1.93 ERA
Both teams scored a pair in their respective halves of the first, Ogden on Kyle Orr's two-run homer, and Orem sparked by a leadoff double by Ivan Contreras and helped out by a couple Ogden errors. Orem broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk against Brandon Tuten and a scoring groundout, and got three more in a busy eighth that included a pair of doubles, a scoring infield single, a hit batter, and a stolen base. Gabriel Casanova homered for Ogden in the top of the ninth to answer, but Andrew Taylor retired the rest of the side without incident, striking out two batters looking.

Ferguson: 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 5.40 ERA
Keller: (S, 1), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
The Arizona League started up Sunday in delightfully balmy 106°F weather; mad dogs and prep draftees, etc. Cody Fuller, presumably on rehab assignment, went 2-for-4 with a couple of triples. Also apparently on a rehab stint: Chris Pettit, who reached base twice via single and a walk. Six different Angels picked up one or more RBIs.
Pettit: 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB

Repko: 1-3
Tiffee: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI

Miller: 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 5.00 ERA
The 51's took an early 2-0 lead but couldn't hold it, as Jason Johnson gave up four runs, one unearned thanks to a throwing error by Mitch Jones in the fourth; it was a sloppy game generally, as both sides made two errors each. Las Vegas rallied in the top of the ninth to score one more on a groundout by Angel Chavez, but that was all they got.

Cody White got shattered in this one, lasting only four innings. First baseman Mark Bellhorn (I was unaware until just now that's where he's been used exclusively) got one hit, making it a four straight mini-streak.

I wonder how Adenhart has been doing out of the stretch. That just killed him with the big club. He was tough when no one was on base, but he was awful once someone reached.
Lucky for you, that's one of many stats available on Adenhart's MILB.com player page. 41.1 IP, 7.19 ERA.
