- The Travs disabled OF Adam Greenberg and SS Hainley Statia, moving them to the 7-day DL Saturday morning. Greenberg has a strained right knee suffered running the bases on Thursday, while Statia pulled his right hamstring on the basepaths Friday night. OF Cliff Remole was shipped to Rancho, and the Travs received OF Anderson Rosario and INF Wil Ortiz from Rancho.
- Angel Berroa was in uniform during today's game but was not on
the roster apparently; Terry
Tiffee was designated for assignment to make room on the
40-man roster.
The Dodgers will be responsible for only the remaining pro-rated portion of the Major League minimum salary for Berroa, not the $3.5 million remaining from his multi-year contract, as earlier reported.
I know that a lot of people don't like BPro's Rate2 stat as a fielding metric, but it's got the advantage of being fairly well-understood and internally consistent (i.e. 100 = exactly major league average). Berroa's last three full seasons have been well under 100 ($):Year G Rate2 ================ 2004 133 83 2005 159 83 2006 131 90
Contrast this with Chin-Lung Hu ($), who was very close to league average (96 Rate2 in a small-sample-sized 27 games), and has every chance to improve thanks to his age. This team really makes me want to scream, and not in a good way. - Jason Schmidt's scheduled rehab start on Sunday has
been delayed because he felt "a little discomfort" in his
surgically repaired shoulder according to Joe Torre.
"It's not a setback, it's just a set aside," Torre said. "At this point, we're not ready to start the clock on him. I think we're more cautious on starting the clock because we know once we start it, you have a 30-day window. We're going to just hold off maybe for a few days, maybe a week, but depending on him."
Sure, Joe. - Here's
an interesting BA piece on PCL park factors;
unsurprisingly, the five worst offenders and their three-year
averaged park factors are

The Dodgers are sending their kids to Vegas regardless of the side effects:Dodgers assistant GM De Jon Watson said that the organization does not alter plans or instruction for its young pitchers who must brave Las Vegas which the Dodgers have called home since 2001.
"It's about keeping the baseball on the ground and executing a pitching plan," he said. "We're making sure we're sticking to what we planned."
Through the years, the Dodgers, like the Rockies, haven't been shy about sending their more promising arms to Vegas. Edwin Jackson, Chad Billingsley and Jonathan Broxton all spent a summer there, as Jon Meloan is this season.
Sticking to the script is something Watson and the Dodgers stress for their batters, too, even though Dodger Stadium is far less forgiving for them than Coors Field is for Rockies batters.
"We're trying to get all the kids to execute and swing the bat, regardless of the park," he said. "The key is to hit those mistakes when they get them. LaRoche, (Chin-Lung) Hu, (James) Loney . . . they all were there. We want them to be consistent with their work and preparation, and that will carry over when you play in the big leagues."

Another crummy start for Nick Adenhart, his worst since returning from the Show back in mid-May. It didn't help that this one was at elevation, but such is the PCL.

Rancho edged Inland Empire on another windy night with a 13 MPH breeze to right. The Quakes rocked the Epicenter to the tune of six runs in the fifth, all off starter Timothy Sexton, the last two on Abel Nieves' two-out double. The 66ers led early in the game, scoring three in the first on Trayvon Robinson's leadoff homer, an Austin Gallagher RBI double, and Ryan Mount's fielding error.
The 66ers made up for Mount's fielding error with a defensive gem in the top of the eighth when Bridger Hunt lined into a 6-3-2-6 triple play that ended the threat. The 66ers posted two more in the top of the ninth off Marco Albano, but Ryan Aldridge got Austin Gallagher to strike out looking to end the game.
De Los Santos: 0-3, 1 K
Reckling: (W, 3-2), 8.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 2.64 ERA

Andy LaRoche was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first and was yanked thereafter. John-Ford Griffin hit a grand slam thereafter, and that was all the scoring the 51's needed to do. Angel Chavez and John Lindsey both homered in the victory as well.

Suspended due to more rain; I can't find anything on a makeup date, but it certainly looks like things went well for the Whitecaps in this one. A 17 MPH wind out to center undoubtedly played into that.
