Bulger: (S, 11), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 0.60 ERA
Homer-happy: Salt Lake pulled ahead in the bottom of the fifth on Sean Rodriguez' first homer of the game, a one-out solo shot; his second came in the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff shot off Kazuo Fukumori. Ben Johnson also homered twice, both of them two-run shots. Brandon Wood homered in the bottom of the second, and Wood collected another hit besides.

Dustin Moseley held on through the seventh, allowing a pair of triples in the first and giving up a pair of wild pitches. Jason Bulger got his 11th save, and Matt Wilhite the win in relief.

2008-07-24: Arkansas 1, Springfield 2 (10 innings) #

Marek: (BS, 5)(L, 2-6) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 3.77 ERA
The Travs wasted a great three-hit shutout by Amalio Diaz when Stephen Marek blew a 1-0 lead, and immediately allowed the first man he faced, Jon Jay, to reach on his own fielding error. With two outs, he gave up a game-tying single to Andrew Brown, thus forcing extras. The Cardinals came through in the bottom of the tenth when Jay drove in a walkoff RBI single against Doug Brandt.

Albano: (W, 3-3) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 6.85 ERA
Suitably after the Register piece in the news section above, Hank Conger was hit by a pitch from reliever Michael Benacka, and Mark Trumbo provided a walkoff two-run jack. Trevor Bell got the blown save, and Marco Albano the win. Drew Toussaint also homered.

Kiely: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.02 ERA
Trevor Reckling's second consecutive bad start in which he didn't manage to finish five innings. At least the offense did its job.
2008-07-24: Casper 9, Orem 5 #
Perez, D: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Jacobo: 3-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI

Dorado: 1.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 8.56 ERA
It's getting mighty late awfully early for Orem, as Casper is within one game of forcing a playoff with the Ghosts at home. William Smith took the loss in his sixth start despite leaving the game with a still-shiny 2.91 ERA. Gabriel Jacobo had his first two-homer game of the season, one a solo shot in the fourth and the other a two-run jack in the sixth; he paced the team with four RBIs.

Tied at 1-1 after nine, Omaha scored two in the top of the tenth off Mike Koplove following a mess of defensive changes, the Royals got a go-ahead double (presumably down the line) by pinch-hitter Ryan Shealy. Yasuhiko Yabuta came in to give up a single to Jason Repko, an RBI double to Terry Tiffee, and a two-run walkoff homer to John Lindsey to end it.

The Suns earned a split of the doubleheader on the back of James McDonald's fine outing; the victory was his first since June 24, though it was his fifth straight quality start. Ryan Rogowski and Juan Gonzalez both homered, while Adolfo Gonzalez banged out three doubles, a season high for him.
