Two Miserable Games
The Unknown Lefty Gambit: Rangers 3, Angels 2
The Rangers, running out of options, went to a favored weapon of teams missing good arms, and pulled an unknown lefty, Matt Harrison, out of their pockets, er, triple-A. It worked, baffling the entire Angels lineup for the most part. Mike Scioscia didn't help by putting Robb Quinlan in alongside Gary Matthews, Jr., maximizing the number of holes in the lineup. Worse, GMJ batted second, ensuring his crummy bat would maximize the number of outs made.Joe Saunders actually lowered his ERA with this game, but it was to no avail that he pitched a complete game loss, the first CG of his career. Kind of a crummy way to bring your first child into the world and get your first CG.
Billingsley's Bad Day: Braves 9, Dodgers 3
Billingsley had a high pitch count day, pitching well in the early innings and falling apart in the fifth and sixth. The Dodgers had nothing to say offensively until the bottom of the sixth, when James Loney managed to break through and plate Andre Ethier.Andruw Jones went 2-for-4, the third such game he has had all year for the Dodgers, and the first since his return from the DL. I'll get excited when he has a good month.
