2008-08-16: Colorado Springs 9, Salt Lake 13 #

Sandoval, F: 3-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Wilson: 3-6, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Wood: 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K
Evans: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Brown, D: 2-5, 1 RBI
Alvarado, C: 2.2 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 4.19 ERA
Wilhite, M: (W, 6-0) (in relief), 3.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 4.87 ERA
Bootcheck: 1.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 3.10 ERA
O'Day: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.75 ERA
The Bees stumbled off to an early 6-3 deficit after a tortuous inning and a half from starter Giancarlo Alvarado that included two homers, one a grand slam by Doug Bernier. Salt Lake kept chipping away, adding single runs in the second and third; they finally chased Sky Sox starter Franklin Morales in the sixth after he walked Brad Coon, leaving men on first and second with one out. That launched a four-run rally highlighted by a Brandon Wood double and capped by Terry Evans' sac fly.

The Bees got four more in a sloppy seventh, with Colorado Springs shortstop Doug Bernier botching a GIDP attempt against Gary Patchett; the killer was Wood's two-run infield single with men on second and third. Now that's aggressive baserunning!

The Bees bullpen held the lead despite sending Chris Bootcheck to the mound (he gave up a single run); Darren O'Day finished the game with a scoreless ninth.

2008-08-16: San Antonio 2, Arkansas 5 #
Pettit: 0-5
Johnson, Be: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI
Smith, Cor: 2-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Trumbo: 0-2, 1 RBI, 2 K
Sutton: 2-3, 1 BB
Austen: (W, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 5.01 ERA
Rodriguez, R: (S, 9), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1.91 ERA
The Travs led this one from the two-run first all the way to the end, powering out three doubles in the first, a Mark Trumbo sac fly in the third, and a crazy sac bunt by Trumbo in the eighth that turned into a run when reliever Philip Barzilla threw the ball away, allowing Ben Johnson to score from second. David Austen got his first win in his fourth start for Arkansas, and his second since returning from Salt Lake earlier in the month.
2008-08-16: Lancaster 7, Rancho Cucamonga 3 #
Mount: 1-5, 3 K
Conger: 1-4, 1 K
Navarro: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 K
Bourjos: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 K
Phillips: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K
O'Sullivan: (L, 15-6), 6.0 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 4.54 ERA
Chambers: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 5.14 ERA
Sean O'Sullivan picked up his second loss of the month, and it's worth noting that he's had a maximum of two losses in any given month in which he's pitched at Rancho. He's been remarkably consistent at picking up decisions, in fact, since he's had only three no-decisions as a starter. Rancho had a 3-1 lead after five, but O'Sullivan gave way in a sloppy four-run sixth, hitting two batters, and was let down by his defense when P.J. Phillips threw a ball away.

A four-run first capped by Gabriel Gacobo's second homer, a two-run shot, propelled the Kernels to an early 4-0 lead, but they let it get away until the visiting Snappers took a 5-4 lead in the middle of the sixth. The Kernels came back in the bottom of the eighth on Carlos Colmenares' sac fly, and plated the winning run when Blake Martin hit Clay Fuller with the bases loaded.

Scoreless through four, the Angels tied a 2-0 deficit in the seventh on Ricky Alvarez' RBI single that cashed in Justin Bass and Terrell Alliman. The Angels got three more in the top of the ninth, two on a Kevin Ramos RBI single that ended the inning when he was caught trying to stretch it into a double.
