Angels Clinch: Angels 4, Yankees 2

More on this later, but with a big clutch three-run single from Robb Quinlan, the Angels beat the Yankees 4-2.

In subsequent action, the Mariners defeated the Rangers 8-7 in Seattle, meaning the Angels have clinched. They are the first team to clinch any postseason berth, and I believe this is also the earliest in team history they have clinched.

Update: The Rev also mentions that this is the earliest any team has ever clinched the AL West.

Update 2: Lookout Landing may wish to retract their sponsorship of Mike Scioscia's page, or at least change the wording thereof.
