A's Release Mike Sweeney
The Oakland A's released Mike Sweeney, likely putting an end to his 14-year career. The Orange, CA native was hitting .286/.331/.397 before he went down with knee problems. He had cartilage removed in mid-season, and doctors say he will require additional surgeries that will disable him from six to nine months.
Sweeney was a five-time All-Star from 2000-2003 and again in 2004, all with the Royals.
To replace him on the roster, the A's purchased the contract of Jeff Baisley from AAA Sacramento.
