Minor League Scorebook
Without comment ... some of the games below were postseason games, but I've got a plane to catch. Update: Stuck in a concourse with a little bit of time now...
News
- Ryan Mount hit the DL with a strained right oblique, so the Angels promoted Peter Bourjos to AAA Salt Lake from high-A Rancho to replace him.
- RHP Shane Loux (oral surgery) is starting a rehab assignment, though oddly he does not appear on the Angels DL list.
- Alex Sorrano cleared waivers and became a free agent.
- Orem's Roberto Lopez finished the season with a .400 average. Wow.
- The Dodgers have refused to enter talks to extend their relationship with Las Vegas, leading to justifiable speculation that they want to return to their historic relationship with Albuquerque. Both the Dodgers' and Marlins' contracts with their respective PCL franchises expire at the end of this season; the first date unaffiliated minor league teams can renegotiate with major league clubs is September 18.
The sticking point appears to be the age of Cashman Field, originally built in 1983. The third-oldest park in the league, it lacks the amenities available in newer parks. Building such a park would cost $50M, and it would require a public-private initiative, something Las Vegas team president Don Logan rates as "better than a 50-50 chance" of happening.

The Travs rallied for three runs in the eighth on a two-out rally sparked by Mark Trumbo's double; improbably, the notoriously slow Trumbo managed to score from second on Chris Pettit's infield single. The Travs take a 1-0 series lead into the second game, scheduled at 7:10 PM CST tonight at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Historic? Let's really get historic! Forget Alberquerky...bring the AAA team back to Spokane!
I'm dying watching the Rangers low-A team here, while memorial busts of past Dodgers greats ring the stadium.
This is where Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Cey, Buckner, Valentine, Sutton, Hough, Lasorda and many more honed their skills before reaching the show. Bring 'em back!

The history is interesting, if I understand it correctly:
1) In 1958 O'Malley moved the Dodgers to LA.
2) The same year, he moved their AAA team, the LA Angels to Spokane, renamed as Spokane Indians.
3) The modern LA Angels are not really the same team as the PCL League Angels were. A new team was formed in 1961 with the same name.
3) The AAA Spokane team moved to Albuquerque after the 1971 season.
4) In 2000 the Dodgers and Padres swapped AAA teams. The Dodgers AAA team moved to Portland as the Padres AAA team. The Padres AAA team moved from Portland to Vegas.
The result is that the original Los Angeles Angels PCL team is now the Portland Beavers.
The orignal Portland Beavers PCL team is the Las Vegas 51s.
Spokane left the PCL in 1983 :(
