Orem lost the first game of the Pioneer League finals to White Sox affiliate Great Falls, but it wasn't a walk for the Voyagers. Starter Jayson Miller worked three scoreless innings before imploding for four runs in the fourth, a deficit his offense was unable to get out of. The inning started with an error by RF Angel Castillo, not only allowing Mike Grace to reach but to take third. Zach Larson eventually capped scoring with a two-run shot with two outs.
The Owlz came back with two in the fifth, the first two batters reaching on a walk and a hit-by-pitch; eventually Orem loaded the bases, and scored a run on Darwin Perez's walk, and a Roberto Lopez RBI single.
Beau Brooks' one-out homer in the top of the seventh was the last scoring thei Owlz would do in this game, though they had their opportunities in the ninth. Beau Brooks got a one-out walk and stole second in Darwin Perez's at-bat, but Perez flied out and Michael Wing struck out.
The Pioneer League Championship Series continues tonight at 7:05 pm in Orem.
