Roster Notes
- Star catching prospect and former USC product Jeff Clement will have season-ending knee surgery according to the Mariners. He has torn cartilage in his left knee; the recovery time for this type of surgery is 3-4 weeks.
- The Giants made a fairly perplexing move by calling up 2008 first-round pick Conor Gillaspie:
"We consider him to be a fast-track player," general manager Brian Sabean said. "He plays a position of need for us and we feel it is extremely important to go into this offseason knowing as much about him and the position as possible."
He had been only hitting .269 in two levels between the AZL and single-A Salem-Keizer, so one wonders what the Giants' front office could possibly be thinking. The McCovey Chronicles reaction is complete bafflement. - Evan Longoria reported no pain after swinging a bat.
- Update: Not roster notes per se, but there's a couple interesting minor league notes: the Angels will likely re-sign Salt Lake manager Bobby Mitchell, and Tony Jackson has more on the proposed relocation of the Dodgers' AAA franchise.
