Pickoff Moves, Dodgers Opening Day Edition

Congratulations To The Sons: Josh Suchon Interview Transcript

It's great to see these guys get recognized for their impish, charming writing on the Dodgers. I've had less and less to say about the Dodgers lately, and that's partly due to being an Angels season ticket holder, and unfortunately this cuts into my ability to watch Dodger games on TV. No such excuse today, though.

Brandon Webb Hits 15-Day DL With Shoulder Tightness

Arizona ace Brandon Webb was placed on the 15-day DL; as the Sons pointed out, it's been a bad week for NL West Cy Young winners.

Padres Pick Up Chad Gaudin For Free

Actually, off waivers from the Cubs, but his brief stint with the Tiny Bears (6.26 ERA in five appearances) was unfortunately typical from the 26-year-old. He had a godawful spring training (10.26 ERA, with 19 runs, all earned, on 26 hits over 16.2 IP), but his sinister behavior will likely keep getting him jobs if he can get his WHIP numbers down.

Two-Liner On Manny Returning To Cleveland

Manny: "I would like to play for Cleveland one more time, to go back where I started," said Ramirez, with the Dodgers playing their home opener Monday against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. "I have so many good memories there, why not?
Tribe Fan: Uh, pass thanks:
Sure, Manny and Thome actually still playing makes that comparison a bit of a stretch, but that doesn’t change the fact that as much as it would be “fun” to have both Ramirez and Thome back with the Tribe, it is merely a nostalgic pipedream.

One that makes no sense both financially and from a baseball standpoint for the future of the Cleveland Indians. As a collective fan base, we should embrace the present and look forward to the future. Yes, the mid-90s were a good time, but they’re long gone. The economics, the payroll, you name it - it’s different. Those major markets can have those guys on the downside of their carreer.I don’t know about you all, but I’ll gladly sit and wait for the days of Brantley and LaPorta.

Thanks to David Pinto. (I also liked Jon's spin: "I don't find this quote surprising or damaging in any way, since we know how unlikely it is that Ramirez will finish his career with the Dodgers or even in the National League.")

Juan Castro To Join The Dodgers Today

Per Tony Jax. "I'm guessing Delwyn Young has been traded for a sack of balls, probably to Cleveland, Pittsburgh or Philly, all of whom were scouting him on his rehab assignment. But again, that's only a guess, and it's also possible he will be DFA'd if no deal was reached."

Update: Tony Jackson, again, says Blake DeWitt has been shipped back to Albuquerque.

Update 2: Delwyn Young was placed on waivers also. The Dodgers have 10 days to trade or release him.

David Pinto On The 4th Out Rule

An interesting suggestion, especially since the rules as they stand now leave it up to the defensive team to request a clarification.
