Arizona Fires Melvin

The Arizona Diamondbacks have fired manager Bob Melvin on the heels of a 4-3 loss to San Diego in extras. Farm director A.J. Hinch will take over for Melvin as team manager.
Melvin compiled an overall record of 337-340 in four-plus seasons with the Diamondbacks. He concludes his tenure as the winningest manager in club history, having led the D-backs to the 2007 National League West crown and the National League Championship Series. He was awarded the NL Manager of the Year honors at the conclusion of the 2007 season.
Update: Hitting coach Rick Schu was also fired, and pitching coach Bryan Price resigned.
