The First Day Of The Rest Of The Season, And The Second: Giants 3, Dodgers 1

Chad Billingsley took his first loss of the year, and not that there was anything wrong with it; give up three runs in your own park, and the Dodgers' offense ought to be able to overcome that. Right? Especially with Barry Zito on the mound. Right?

Welcome to the world turned upside down: the Dodgers' ace couldn't contain the worst offense in the National League, while 31-year-old Barry Zito, whose career was approaching Russ Ortiz levels of irrelevance, seemed to reach back and find his old 2002 persona.

Well, it took the Angels a while before they recovered from Nick Adenhart, too.

Xavier Paul made his first major league appearance, as a pinch runner in the eighth; he did not score. It was fitting in a game where the Dodgers blundered on the basepaths, running rallies into the ground.

i've seen many times writers telling us how much Manny is losing, but i'm wondering what the Dodgers paid him so far. If they cut him loose right now through legal manuevers and never paid him another cent, they have made a shrewd deal. Even though granted pennant's aren't won in April, his presence for a month's salary essentially has given them a great shot at the division flag for a good price and signing him did a lot of good PR, and now they are 'victims'
