Last Year's Girl: Dodgers 2, Cubs 1
Was Mark DeRosa the key to last year's Cubs team? I sort of doubt it, but the 2009 squad has been dealing with injury at a rate that seems unbelievable, and so he's become kind of a totem to this year's team. Aramis Ramirez isn't the only thing afflicting them, but his absence is a peg on which to hang the hat of 8-game losing streaks and other similar disasters. At least, they managed to scare the Dodgers here, but until Randy Wolf left the mound, Bobby Scales (on a solo homer) was the only Cub to make it past second base. The Cubs' ninth inning rally almost seemed like a courtesy considering how the Dodgers had dominated in the rest of the game, and I didn't even bother listening to the rest of the game once Reed Johnson had grounded out to short. Sure enough, the Dodgers put this one in the can without too much further effort, striking out Scales and Jake Fox.
