Peavy To White Sox Deal Off; Padres Trade For Tony Gwynn, Jr.
A blockbuster trade, sending (allegedly — no confirmation yet) Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda back to San Diego. We'll see how this goes, because Peavy has a no-trade clause, but that can be fixed if he waives it. (Also via Tom Nightengale of USA Today.)
Update: Via Gaslamp Ball, the Padres have traded for Tony Gwynn, Jr., marking his joining with the franchise where his father made his name.
Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune thinks Peavy is holding out for a deal with the Cubs.
Update 2: ... Eric Stephen at True Blue LA passes on another Tom Krasovic article, which states this deal is "not likely" now.
