Hokie Joe Balks One In, Wins Anyway: Angels 5, A's 2
Joe Saunders' embarrassing bases-loaded balk in the sixth notwithstanding, this might have been the best game he's pitched all year. The A's pitching staff, led by starter Brett Anderson, got fairly beat up by the top of the Angels' order, including a 4-for-4, 3 RBI night by Mike Napoli at the DH slot. He seems to like that position: he's hitting .857/.889/1.143 as a DH in a small-sample-sized two games.The Good Eleven: Dodgers 7, Diamondbacks 2
11-0 at home to start the season, setting the NL mark. Wow. I saw the end of this one yesterday (from about the sixth on or so), and it seemed like the game was just rolling on over the Snakes, steadily crushing them one run at a time. Eric Stults actually came within an out of a quality start, not too shabby. Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier hit back-to-back homers against Doug Davis in the first to set the tone of the game, and the Dodgers never looked back.(Too bad I missed Casey Blake hitting into the Dodgers' first triple play in 18 years.)
Roster Notes
- The Angels activated Darren Oliver and Kevin Jepsen, optioning Jepsen to AAA Salt Lake, and also optioning Fernando Rodriguez to AAA.
- Vlad will have an exam by Dr. Lewis Yocum.
- The Angels plan on no changes to their rotation for now, which includes a marquee matchup on Saturday of Zach Greinke and Joe Saunders. Matt Palmer even gets to stay, which must be a thrill for him.
- Hiroki Kuroda and Hong-Chih Kuo have no return schedule set yet.
- Jeff Weaver will return to the rotation tonight after having bumped James McDonald.
