Weaver The Brilliant: Angels 3, White Sox 1
In a season where mediocrity feels like a step up, and injury and death have haunted the team almost from the beginning, Jered Weaver's sudden tranformation into a legitimate staff ace is nothing short of astonishing. The Chisox' lefties, usually Weaver's nemesis prior to this year, went 2-for-10 against him, and both of those hits came off the bat of Jim Thome.
Bobby Abreu hit his first homer of the year in Tuesday's game, and he came through big again yesterday with a huge RBI double in the right place, but the game's big blow was Juan Rivera's two-run double in the same sixth inning, right as Chicago starter Gavin Floyd seemed to be tiring. Every time the Angels face him, he has a ridiculous ERA, it seems to me, but then he pitches well for a while and the Angels tear into him late. This wasn't a rending of flesh, but it was good enough.
