David Pinto On The AL West
David Pinto has been running a series during the All-Star break called 30 Teams in Three Days; here's his takes on the
- Mariners: If they could find someone to stick in leftfield, they might just pull out the AL West.
- Rangers: The offense became too one dimensional. ... Like the Mariners, the Rangers need someone who doesn’t make outs to round out the lineup. They have plenty of power already. A strikeout pitcher would help, also, to take some pressure off the defense.
- Angels: The Angels are receiving outstanding on-base averages from six regulars ... the young [starters] came through ... Injuries hurt most this season ... I would expect the Angels offense to fall off a bit in the second half.
- Athletics: Beane did see his pitching staff would be okay and went out and tried to acquire some needed power. He should have offered the money to Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu, then at least he’d have two players who get on base and one who can swat the ball. ... I don’t think Billy will get such a great deal for Matt [Holliday].
