Rangers Trade For Ex-Ranger Pudge Rodriguez
The Rangers sent two minor leaguers to Houston to re-acquire Pudge Rodriguez. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, their regular starting catcher, was placed on the DL Saturday with arm fatigue "and was told today by vascular specialist Dr. Greg Pearl that he has thoracic outlet syndrome" according to the Dallas Star-Telegram. This appears to be a defensive move, because an earlier report in the Dallas Morning News indicated Saltalamacchia could return to starting duties once he was eligible to come off the DL. No word on the identity of the minor leaguers returned to the Astros.
Update: Fanhouse says it's RHP Matt Nevarez and a player to be named later. Nevarez is a project — missing all of 2007 with an arm injury — but he's got good stuff, with a 2.83 ERA for single-A Hickory in the Sally League in 35 innings as a 22-year-old.
