Angels Sneak A Win, Even With Greinke Starting: Angels 2, Royals 1 (11 Innings)

This game lived up to its advance billing, with both sides putting on quite a pitching show; but neither starter ended up having anything to do with the decision, Lackey going nine and giving up one run early in the first. Zack Greinke threw scoreless frame after scoreless frame, but the Angels finally got to him in the eighth, when Chone Figgins reached on Willie Bloomquist's error that let a routine grounder bounce under his glove. By and by, Torii Hunter cashed him in on a two-out single, but that only tied the game; the final resolution had to wait for the eleventh inning, when Erick Aybar's dunker to right pushed Hunter across the plate.

A tough win for the Angels, and a good — excellent, even — outing for John Lackey, who could have had a CG win if only his offense had done their jobs in regulation. That they stranded 11 tells you how close they came, time and again, and didn't make it.

Wasn't really a routine grounder to Bloomquist -- it was a hard-hit short hop to the 3B side. He misgauged it, but it wasn't like the ball went between his legs or something; it was a challenging play to make.

I thought it wasn't moving that fast, but then, I was down a couple glasses of pinot grigio by then.
